Renee Maurice – Paralegal

Renee C. Maurice is a Seattle Native who earned her Paralegal degree in 1980. She has twenty-five+ years extensive experience as a litigation paralegal and has been involved in all levels of State Courts and U.S. District Courts, including Washington and Alaska, UIM and Mandatory Arbitration forums. She joined Hawkes Law Firm in May, 2007 and enjoys being an advocate for people, especially for those who have little voice such as children and the elderly.

Renee is a member of the King County Bar Association (Legal Assistant Program), the Washington State Association for Justice, and the Washington Employment Lawyers Association. Renee has attended numerous professional seminars with emphasis on Brain Injury, Elder Abuse, Soft Tissue Injury and insurance issues.  Renee’s hobbies include spending time with her family, cooking, playing with her dogs, fishing, raising chickens and gardening.

Karen Cooksey – Paralegal

Hawkes Law Firm welcomed Karen to our team at the beginning of 2018, making her our newest addition to the team. She grew up in northern New York but is a self-proclaimed “wanderer” and has lived in many different places, including New York, California and Florida, and now the Pacific Northwest! While in CA she earned her Bachelor’s in English and Women’s Studies from Cal State, Long Beach.

After moving to the PNW and raising her son, Karen obtained her Advanced Paralegal Certificate from Edmonds Community College and has been working as a paralegal ever since, with most knowledge in Family Law, Estate Planning and Probates (we believe she could do anything!). She hopes to soon add to her list many law-related extracurriculars.

In her spare time, Karen, her husband and young son are very involved in the Boy Scouts and her son’s school community. She also enjoys reading, cooking, and outdoor activities with her family, and traveling whenever she can!

We couldn’t be happier she is fitting in so well to our Hawkes team!

Mary Hegrat – Bookkeeper/Front Office Manager

Mary’s customer service experience has made her a promising front office manager and bookkeeper for our staff. Along with working full time at our office, Mary is also enrolled in classes at North Seattle College and is obtaining her degree in Accounting. In her spare time, Mary loves to snuggle up with a good book or go out with her friends to sporting events and concerts. Mary has proven to be an irreplaceable member of our staff!

Carol Brayer – Paralegal (Retired)

After 17 years at Hawkes Law Firm and 40+ years in the law business preceding her stint at HLF, Carol finally retired in 2015.  She and her hubby Bill Brayer now spend their senior “moments” enjoying each other’s company and their many kids and grandkids.  She was a brilliant presence and teacher at HLF for nearly two decades, and we will all miss her.  We also wish her and Bill great health and joy in their retirement.  And she has a standing invite to all HLF social gatherings.
